Anthony Rendon Open To Extension With Nationals

Dec 18, 2017 7:59 AM

Anthony Rendon, who has spent his entire career with the organization, is open to a contract extension with the Washington Nationals.

Rendon is in his second year of arbitration eligibility and cannot become a free agent until 2020.

"I want to stay with one organization," he said. "It's a great organization. It's great to see how we've changed over the years."

Rendon isn't sure whether Scott Boras would meet with the Nationals to discuss a potential contract extension this offseason.

Dec 18, 2017 8:05 AM

Stephen Strasburg is not so sure he wants to be an All-Star ever again.

The Nationals star right-hander said Sunday he is sure a change in routine for that event last season contributed to an arm injury that landed him on the disabled list, so he might just skip future Midsummer Classics.

Daniel Murphy Still On Crutches

Dec 18, 2017 12:56 AM

Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy ambled around the team's annual fan festival with the aid of a pair of crutches and declined to offer any sort of estimate about the length of his recovery from right knee surgery.

"I don't want to put any timetables on it, because if you miss 'em, you guys get really fishy when stuff like that happens," Murphy said Saturday, sitting on a chair during his session with reporters about eight weeks after the operation.

Nationals, Bryce Harper Begin To Discuss Extension

Dec 15, 2017 7:52 AM

The Washington Nationals met with Scott Boras last month to discuss a potential long-term contract extension with Bryce Harper.

"We had a meeting with the Washington ownership about a month ago, just for some preliminary discussions," Boras said. "Other than that, it's probably something that we'll address as time goes forward."

On Wednesday, Mike Rizzo confirmed that a meeting took place between Boras and Washington's ownership.

"It's a huge commitment for ownership," the general manager said. "There's a lot of things, when you talk about those type of numbers for a particular player, when I always talk about those type of deals, you're signing the person more so than the player.

"I'm not going to read too much into it. It was a preliminary conversation. It's something that we wanted to do. We'd like to get more momentum and obviously everyone's heart is in the right place, and we'll see where it takes us."

Marlins Now Focused On Trading Marcell Ozuna

Dec 12, 2017 8:28 AM

Now that they've traded Giancarlo Stanton, the Miami Marlins are focused on trading Marcell Ozuna.

The Marlins are pushing to trade Ozuna and clubs are interested.

The cost for Ozuna, who is under team control for two years, is lower than that of Christian Yelich, who can be controlled for five seasons.

The Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly interested in Ozuna.
