Red Sox Not Concerned After Eduardo Rodriguez Tweaks Knee

Dec 30, 2016 8:24 AM

The Boston Red Sox say they aren't concerned after Eduardo Rodriguez tweaked his right knee after he slipped on a wet mound during a winter ball start in Venezuela on Tuesday.

Dave Dombrowski characterized the injury as merely a "tweak," and the team hasn't asked Rodriguez to return to Boston to be examined by their medical staff.

"At this point, we are not sure if he is coming to Boston or not," Dombrowski said. "We are staying in contact with him in Venezuela and will determine that over the next few days."

Rodriguez missed five weeks in spring training and the first nine weeks of last season with a dislocated right knee that the club didn't deem serious when it happened Feb. 28.

Red Sox Brush Off David Ortiz Return Talk After Instagram Post

Dec 8, 2016 5:19 AM

Nobody with the Boston Red Sox is taking a recent Instagram post by David Ortiz seriously.

After the club traded for Chris Sale on Tuesday, Ortiz posted a picture of the pitcher on the social media site with the caption, "My god. My boy sale to Btown? You guys got me thinking?"

"I know David well enough, and I know that if he really had sincere interest, that he would call," Dave Dombrowski said. "It's just like when I walked into the [Fenway Park] clubhouse [last month] and he's working out and I say, 'Hey, you could play now in the shape you're in,' and he says, 'Oh, no, no, no.'"

Ortiz filed his retirement paperwork in November, so he would be required to remain on the "voluntary retired list" for the first 60 days of next season.
