The Detroit Tigers have claimed Marc Krauss off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Tampa Bay designated the first baseman for assignment over the weekend.
The Tigers will be without Miguel Cabrera for six weeks because of a calf injury and Krauss is a logical addition.
The Pirates today claimed first baseman Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the Giants. The Pirates will make a corresponding move on the 25-man roster upon Ishikawa’s arrival in Pittsburgh. The announcement was made by Pirates Executive Vice President, GM Neal Huntington.
The 31-year-old Ishikawa went 0-for-5 in six games this year with the Giants after beginning the year on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain. He also hit a combined .266 with nine doubles, four home runs and 20 RBI in 37 games between Single-A San Jose and Triple-A Sacramento in 2015.
This will be Ishikawa’s second stint with the Pirates after making the team last season out of spring training as a non-roster invitee. He was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on April 19, 2014, before signing a minor league contract with San Francisco on April 25.
