Mar 8, 2016 6:35 AM

Major League Baseball has dropped Chae Utley's two-game suspension, meaning the Dodgers second baseman will be available to play Opening Day, sources confirmed to ESPN's Adam Rubin and Pedro Gomez.

Utley was suspended for his hard slide into Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. Tejada suffered a broken leg on the play.

Jenrry Mejia Believes MLB Officials Orchestrated Lifetime Ban

Mar 5, 2016 2:55 PM

Jenrry Mejia believes he was the victim of a witch hunt by Major League Baseball.

Mejia was permanently barred from baseball after three failed doping tests.

Baseball’s drug-testing program, which is jointly administered with the players’ union, caught Mejia using anabolic steroids three times.

Mejia said that baseball officials told him that if he appealed the punishment for the second doping offense, “they will find a way to find a third positive,” Mejia said through an interpreter. “I felt there was a conspiracy against me. I feel that they were trying to find something to bring me down in my career.”

Baseball officials denied making any such threats. “No one at M.L.B. or representing M.L.B. has met with Mejia regarding any of these drug violations,” Pat Courtney, a league spokesman, said.

“The association should have done more,” Mejia said, adding that he thought the union “should have been there to defend me — because that’s what they’re there for. They should have found something to appeal for.”

MLB Suspends Aroldis Chapman For 30 Games

Mar 2, 2016 10:38 PM

Aroldis Chapman has been suspended 30 games under Major League Baseball's new domestic violence policy for his involvement in an alleged incident in October.

The New York Yankees closer will not appeal the suspension.

"I want to be clear, I did not in any way harm my girlfriend that evening. However, I should have exercised better judgment with respect to certain actions, and for that I am sorry," Chapman said in a statement.

"The decision to accept a suspension, as opposed to appealing one, was made after careful consideration. I made this decision in an effort to minimize the distractions that an appeal would cause the Yankees, my new teammates and most importantly, my family. I have learned from this matter, and I look forward to being part of the Yankees' quest for a 28th World Series title. Out of respect for my teammates and my family, I will have no further comment."
