Phillies Activate Ruiz Following Suspension

The Philadelphia Phillies had catcher Carlos Ruiz back for Sunday's game against the New York Mets.

Ruiz served a 25-game suspension for using a banned amphetamine. The suspension began on Opening Day.

The 34-year-old had a career year in 2012 when he batted .325 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs in 114 games.

Ruiz went 1-for-4 with a double in Philadelphia's win over New York on Sunday.

Jonathan Sanchez Suspended Six Games

Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has been suspended by Major League Baseball for six games and fined for hitting Allen Craig on Friday night.

Sanchez gave up two home runs and a single to start the inning before plunking the St. Louis Cardinal hitter in the shoulder.

Umpire Tim Timmons immediately ejected Sanchez before tossing Pirates manager Clint Hurdle for arguing.

Quentin Drops Appeal, Begins Serving Suspension

San Diego Padres slugger Carlos Quentin has dropped his appeal and begun serving an eight-game suspension for rushing the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week.

Zack Greinke broke his collarbone after Quentin tackled him. Quentin has been suspended eight games.

Quentin will miss the Padres' three-game series at Dodger Stadium beginning Monday night.

"There's been many different ideas and thoughts and concerns out there," Quentin. "Let me say this as far as the Dodgers series: Obviously I will miss the upcoming one but I will be a part of the rest. We play them many times."

Carlos Quentin Suspended Eight Games

San Diego Padres slugger Carlos Quentin has been suspended eight games by Major League Baseball for his role in a brawl with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night.

Quentin rushed the mound after he was hit in the upper left arm by a pitch from Zack Greinke.

The two players lowered their shoulders and Quentin slammed into Greinke, breaking the pitcher's left collarbone.

Carlos Carrasco Suspended Eight Games

Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco has been suspended eight games for "intentionally throwing" at New York's Kevin Youkilis, his second penalty in two years for aiming at a hitter.

Major League Baseball appeared to take Carrasco's history into account with the punishment, which included a $3,000 fine.

Carrasco was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday and will not start serving the suspension until his recall.
