Kyle Lohse may be the best starter on the free agent market as the calender turns to January.
The Tigers, Dodgers, Brewers and Rangers could go after him for a variety of reasons.
Mike Napoli will be forced to work out his three-year, $39 million deal with the Red Sox, unless he wants to sign a one-year deal elsewhere or a two-year deal with the Rangers.
A.J. Pierzynski wanted to finish his career with the White Sox, but the club never made a strong effort to re-sign him.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said the club had "more pressing needs that needed to be addressed."
A.J. Pierzynski says he is no longer upset with Rangers manager Ron Washington for not selecting him to this past season's All-Star team.
He officially signed a one-year, $7.5 million deal with Texas on Thursday.
"It came up (at the lunch), and I made a joke of it," Pierzynski said. "It was over as soon as it happened. You're disappointed as a player because you want to go to the All-Star Game and be honored that way. But when it was over, it was over."
Pierzynski said he's talked to some players who have played for Washington and has heard "nothing but praise."
The Rangers have already installed A.J. Pierzynski as their starting catcher.
Ron Washington made it clear during a conference call on Wednesday that he will not platoon Pierzynski, a left-handed hitter, with Geovany Soto.
"As far as playing time goes, A.J. is our guy," Washington said. "Geo will get some playing time. A.J. is going to be the front-runner."
Pierzynski is in line to be the first Rangers catcher with 120-plus starts in a season since Pudge Rodriguez in 1999.
Jon Daniels says the Rangers remain in the market for another bat and that they are always looking for pitching.
Texas lost both Josh Hamilton and Mike Napoli in free agency, leaving holes in the lineup and especially in the power department.
"We're looking at that now," Daniels said of power hitters. "There's a decent chance we'll look to add somebody."
A.J. Pierzynski officially signed his one-year deal with the Rangers and claimed he no longer is frustrated about not being selected to last year's All-Star team by Ron Washington.
The deal is worth $7.5M, sources told ESPNDallas.com.
Pierzynski said he is excited to play for Washington and isn't upset anymore.

Brad Corbett, who owned the Texas Rangers from 1974 to 1980, has died. He was 75.
Corbett's daughter, Pamela Corbett Murrin, said that her father died peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Eve.
She said he had not been sick recently.
The Rangers have looked into Michael Bourn, but they haven't really progressed with the free agent outfielder.
Texas officials have asked around about Bourn, who is one of the top remaining players left on the market.
The Yankees are not currently close to a trade for an outfielder.
Texas was also in that position as the weekend began.
