The Chicago Cubs will "definitely" make a qualifying offer to Willson Contreras, according to Jed Hoyer.

It was expected that the Cubs wanted to retain Contreras long-term after they declined to trade him at this summer's deadline.

The exact value of this year's qualifying offer has yet to be determined. Last year's one-year deal was worth $18.4 million.

Contreras, 30, hit .243/.349/.466 with 22 home runs in 487 plate appearances this season.
