The Chicago Cubs are planning to meet with representatives for Drew Smyly later this month to discuss a possible contract extension.

Smyly's contract contains a mutual $10 million option with a $1 million buyout for 2023.

It's unlikely Smyly will return to the Cubs under the terms of that deal, but they have an exclusive negotiating window with the pitcher until five days after the World Series.

The 33-year-old posted a 3.47 ERA in 106.1 innings pitched this season.
