The Yankees defeated the Red Sox 20-11 on Friday night in the highest scoring game ever between the historic rivals. New York tallied 23 hits, while Boston recorded 11 at Fenway Park. The Yankees led comfortably from the second inning on, but the Red Sox made things interesting with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. "That was an uncomfortable 20 to whatever it was game," shortstop Derek Jeter told the Associated Press, "because you get a couple of guys on base [and] you pepper that wall and it could be a whole new game." Hideki Matsui was the star of the game, clubbing two three-run home runs and driving in a career-high seven runs.
