Police: David Ortiz Shooting Was $30K Hit Gone Bad

Police say a suspected drug trafficker offered to pay $30,000 for the shooting that wounded baseball slugger David Ortiz, who was sitting alongside the intended victim.

National Police spokesman Frank Felix Duran Mejia told a news conference on Sunday that the alleged mastermind of the attack had so far paid only $10,000 to people hired to arrange the killing of Sixto David Fernandez, his cousin.

Sources: Cubs Considering Sportsbook At Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs have considered opening a sportsbook at Wrigley Field and at locations just outside of the Friendly Confines, multiple sources familiar with the team's thinking told ESPN.

Betting windows, automated kiosks and even a full-blown sportsbook venue inside the stadium are among the options that have been considered by the Cubs and other Chicago professional franchises, as Illinois' new sports betting law prepares to take effect.

David Ortiz Shot, Wounded In Dominican Republic

Former Red Sox and Dominican star David Ortiz was shot and wounded at an entertainment center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, his father told ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

"They called to tell me that David is injured and that they took him to a medical center, but they did not tell me how he is or exactly where he was transferred," Leo Ortiz said via telephone from the Dominican Republic.

"At the moment, everything is confusing. I'm trying to find out where they took my son," Mr. Ortiz added.

According to a report from Dominican TV station CDN 37, Ortiz was shot in the leg.

Ortiz is in stable condition.

Former Rangers Manager Frank Lucchesi Dies At 92

Frank Lucchesi, who replaced the fired Billy Martin as manager of the Texas Rangers in 1975 and was punched by a player upset over a demotion two years later, has died. He was 92.

The Rangers said Lucchesi died Saturday. The San Francisco native lived in the Dallas area.
