Average MLB Franchise Now Valued At $1.78 Billion

The average MLB team is now worth $1.78 billion, which represents an eight percent increase over last year.

Over the 22 years Forbes has released valuations on MLB teams, the average team value has increased at an 11 percent compound annual rate of growth.

The average NBA and NFL team values have increased 13 percent and 12 percent respectively.

The MLB is more reliant on local revenue (ballpark and local television money) at $7.29 billion compared to $2.76 billion in central revenue (mainly national television money).

The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants comprise the top-5.

Woman Suing Astros Due To T-Shirt Cannon Incident

A woman is suing the Houston Astros for more than $1 million, claiming her finger was broken when she was hit by a shirt from the T-shirt cannon fired at close range by the team's mascot, Orbit, last season.

Jennifer Harughty says in the suit that her left index finger was shattered on July 8, 2018, when she was hit by a shirt from the cannon.

Dykstra Suing Ex-Met Teammate For Libel, Defamation

Lenny Dykstra sued former New York Mets teammate Ron Darling for defamation and libel on Tuesday, following through on his threat to file a lawsuit for claims Darling made about Dykstra in his new book.

In his book, "108 Stitches: Loose Threads, Ripping Yarns, and the Darndest Characters from My Time in the Game," Darling wrote that Dykstra shouted racial taunts at Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd from the on-deck circle before Game 3 of the 1986 World Series.

The suit was filed in New York Supreme Court and lists St. Martin's Press LLC, Macmillan Publishing Group LLC and Darling as defendants.

Ron Darling Stands By Lenny Dykstra Allegations

Ron Darling said Tuesday on ESPN Radio that he stands by his account that former New York Mets teammate Lenny Dykstra shouted racial slurs at Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd before his first at-bat in Game 3 of the 1986 World Series.

Darling made his comments on ESPN Radio's Golic & Wingo show after Dykstra threatened to sue him over his allegations in an appearance on 98.7 ESPN New York's Michael Kay Show on Monday. Former Mets teammates Dwight Gooden and Kevin Mitchell also said on the Michael Kay Show that they never heard Dykstra say the slurs to Boyd.
