Joe Kelly Has Suspension Reduced To Five Games

Aug 13, 2020 8:58 AM

Joe Kelly has had his suspension for throwing pitches near the heads of Houston Astros hitters reduced to five games on appeal.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reliever was penalized eight games by Major League Baseball on July 29, one day after his pitches and taunts led to a benches-clearing situation at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The game marked the first time that the Dodgers and Astros had met since it was revealed that Houston stole signs en route to a 2017 World Series title over L.A.

Aug 13, 2020 8:58 AM

Ramon Laureano has been suspended six games and Alex Cintron 20 games for their roles in Sunday's benches-clearing incident between the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros.

Laureano, who also received an undisclosed fine, has appealed the suspension.

Cintron, Houston's hitting coach, also received an undisclosed fine. His suspension begins immediately.

"I apologize for my part in Sunday's unfortunate incident. As coaches, we are held to a higher standard and should be an example to the players. Hopefully, other coaches will learn from my mistake so that this never happens again in the future," Cintron said in a statement.
