Despite rumors that the Rockies were in talks with free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, an agreement is unlikely. An excellent Rockies source said: "There is absolutely no truth to the Cody Ross stories. The Rockies have always liked Cody as a player but we have no fit at all in our outfield."

The Rockies are discussing a possible contract with outfielder Cody Ross. Ross helped lead the Giants to a World Series victory in 2010. Signing Ross would help Colorado create the depth needed because of the strong possibility that they'll trade Seth Smith.

Having signed outfielder Michael Cuddyer, the Rockies are hoping to trade Seth Smith this offseason. Colorado is looking to add pitching and a second baseman. The Rockies have had talks with the Braves about acquiring Martin Prado, but Atlanta would have to swing a contingent deal to fill the hole left by Prado.

There are still as many as seven teams in search of a starting pitcher this offseason. The Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Orioles, Rockies, Marlins and Tigers are all on the lookout. Hiroki Kuroda, Edwin Jackson, Roy Oswalt, Jair Jurrjens and some of Tampa Bay's pitchers are on the market.

The Rockies want to bolster their starting rotation this offseason, but currently Hiroki Kuroda and Joe Saunders are too expensive, according to a source. Colorado won't seriously flirt with Kuroda or Saunders unless their respective prices come down.

The Rockies have agreed to a one-year contract with infielder Casey Blake. Blake, 38, appeared in just 63 games for the Dodgers last season (.252, four homers, 26 RBIs) because of injuries -- a back problem, an elbow infection and a neck nerve issue that led to surgery. The contract calls for a non-guaranteed base salary of $2 million, with another $1 million available in performance bonuses.

The Braves thought they were close to trading right-hander Jair Jurrjens to the Reds this past weekend, but the deal died when Cincinnati instead dealt for San Diego's Mat Latos. If Jurrjens was traded to the Reds, the Rockies felt the Braves would then be in position to trade them Martin Prado.

The Rockies introduced outfielder Michael Cuddyer on Tuesday after the two sides signed a three-year, $31.5 million contract. Cuddyer, 32, spent 11 seasons in Minnesota before agreeing to a free-agent deal with the Rockies late last week. He batted .284 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs last season and went to his first All-Star game. "For us, quite honestly, we thought it was a perfect fit," general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "He's a difference-maker for our club. We think his best years are still in front of him and he's an off-gap hitter. He's going to wear out our alleys here in Coors Field."

The Mets have expressed interest in Rockies outfielder/second baseman Eric Young Jr., according to a major league source. New York sending Justin Turner to Colorado might get the potential deal done.

Looking to add depth to their bullpen, the Rockies have contacted the agent for right-hander Brad Lidge. Lidge grew up in Colorado and still has a home there. He is known to have interest in pitching for the Rockies. "It's no secret that Brad would be comfortable in Colorado if something can be worked out," agent Rex Gary said. "He has no timetable. A lot of things are important to him. Colorado is home and geography is certainly a factor he will weigh heavily."
