Sunday, June 24 Detroit Tigers left-hander Andrew Miller is just a year away from North Carolina, but he dazzled against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night. He relied almost primarily on his fastball that clocked in around 94-95 mph with regularity. His height (6-foot-6) and side arm motion gives his fastball the movement of a cutter/hard slider, making it almost unhittable when good against right-handed hitters. He needs to develop his secondary pitches, but first impressions on his start are that Miller is young, confident and knows what he wants to do on the mound. Thursday, June 21 New York Yankees right-hander Roger Clemens didn?t make it out of the fifth inning of his start at Colorado on Thursday. He showed some definite control problems by getting into too many three-ball counts and having big misses on his pitches. However, he did show his high pitching IQ by working himself back into counts he had no business being in and knowing when to challenge hitters with a fastball that clocked in at around 90 all afternoon. Clemens is still working himself back into game shape, but he is definitely on the right track. Tuesday, June 19 Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Homer Bailey is a promising young right-hander ready for big league baseball. He has a good fastball ranging from 92-94 mph and getting as high as 95 against the Oakland A?s. He has two average offerings in a curveball and change-up that he is relying too much on at this point of his career. His mechanics though are very developed and has a Nolan Ryan type delivery. Keep an eye on Bailey going forward.
