Wilmer Flores - SS
Wilmer Flores Scouting Report
- Flores was signed in 2007 for $750k, which was a fairly affordable price considering he was one of the top international free agents. the Marlins were the only other team in on the negotiations.
- Born on August 6th, 1991 in Venezuela and is currently 6'3", 175 lbs. He attended the Agua Linda Academy.
- Flores hit .310/.352/.490 with eight homers, 12 doubles and four triples in just 245 Appalachian League at bats in 2008 at the age of 16.
- When he reached the Brooklyn Cyclones for 30 at bats at the end of 2008, he hit .267 with one double.
- Because of the WBC, Flores played in some 2009 Spring Training games with the Mest, going 2-for-9. Also committed a few errors at shortstop.
- He has an excellent arm at shortstop and his future was once believed to be as a pitcher. He doesn't have the best range and could end up at third base or more likely a corner outfield spot, especially since Jose Reyes and David Wright aren't expected to go anywhere for another decade.
- Ranked 54th by Baseball Prospectus in their Top 100 Prospects for 2009.
- There have been a lot of Miguel Cabrera comparisons and Flores resembles him close enough to be mistaken for a brother.
