Return to MLB Prospect index Brad Holt - RHP Brad Holt Scouting Report - Brad Holt was selected by the Mets with the 33rd overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft as compensation for the loss of Tom Glavine. - Holt was born on October 13th, 1986 and attended UNC-Wilmington. He made a big jump from his sophomore to junior season, which led to his rise in draft stock. - He is a 6'4", 194 pound right-hander with a great build for a power pitcher. - Holt has an excellent mid-90's fastball with good command, but needs to improve his offspeed offerings. His curve is occasionally effective, but he has too many inconsistent outings. - His ceiling is projected as anywhere from a mid-rotaton starter to a closer/setup type. If he is unable to develop a reliable secondary pitch, then the latter seems like a much safer bet. - Holt had a 1.75 ERA/1.05 WHIP and an impressive 89 strikeouts in 67.0 innings of low-A work in 2008 with the Brooklyn Cyclones. He walked 31 and did a nice job of keeping the ball down in the zone. His K/9 and ERA rate was the best in the New York-Penn League.
