Ricky Romero - LHP
Ricky Romero Scouting Report
- Romero was the sixth overall selection in the famous 2005 MLB Draft, taken ahead of Troy Tulowitzki.
- I conducted a lengthy interview with Romero in the spring of 2008 and just about everything you'd ever want to know about him before that season can be found within that piece.
- He was a College World Series star at Cal State Fullterton, but his pro career has been marred by injuries and inconsistencies.
- Romero features a fastball, curve, change and cutter.
- Romero pitched 42.2 innings innings in Triple-A, striking out 38, walking 20 and posting a 3.38 ERA. That was preceded by 121.2 Double-A innings where he had a 4.96 ERA and just 78 strikeouts.
- He has had a productive spring and looks like he'll be in the bigs sometime in 2009. Romero probably has enough stuff to be a journeyman reliever as a worst case scenario.
