Kevin Ahrens Scouting Report
- Ahrens was the 16th overall selection in the 2007 MLB Draft. He chose not to attend Texas A&M upon signing a $1.44M contract with Toronto.
- He was born on April 26th, 1989 and attended high school in Houston.
- Ahrens hit .255/.326/.364 for an OPS of .690 in 459 Single-A at bats during the 2008 season. He hit five homers, 25 doubles and five triples to go with 135 strikeouts and 45 walks. Ahrens' strikeout rate progressively climbed each month and he struck out in 33% of his August at bats.
- He is a recent switch-hitting convert and is stronger from the right side, but has good power from the left as well. Ahrens uses the entire field and has the capability of being a patient hitter, especially given his age.
- Ahrens has a strong core and is a solid athlete.
- Ahrens was a shortstop in high school and has converted himself into an above average defensive third baseman with a strong arm.
