Andrew Brackman - RHP
Andrew Brackman Scouting Report
- Brackman was the 30th overall selection by the Yankees in the 2007 MLB Draft. They signed him to a $3.35 million signing bonus, negotiated by agent Scott Boras.
- He was born on December 4th, 1985 and stands 6'11", 230 lbs, lightening up from the 270 when he was drafted.
- Brackman played basketball along with baseball while at NC State. He had arm problems and also a stress fracture in his hip while in college. The problems in his arm led him to Tommy John surgery in August 2007.
- Brackman has a high 90's fastball and an excellent knuckle-curve, but has yet to develop any reliable pitches beyond those two. As a two-sport star, he hasn't had as much mound time over the years as other pitchers and the injuries have set him back even further. He is unquestionably a strikeout pitcher who uses that height effectively, but his command remains inconsistent.
- He demonstrated his old velocity while playing winter ball in Hawaii. He struck out 16 in 14.2 innings, but gave up 11 walks, 15 hits and 10 earned runs. But most of that damage came in rough outings.
- The Yankees believe Brackman has a lot of David Price in him and that is why they remain so optimistic.
