Mariners Re-Sign Hisashi Iwakuma To Minor League Deal

The Seattle Mariners have brought back Hisashi Iwakuma on a Minor League deal with an invitation to Spring Training.

Iwakuma, 36, made only six starts this season before going down with a shoulder injury.

He underwent shoulder debridement surgery in September and is expected to resume throwing in March, meaning he is unlikely to be in the Opening Day rotation.

Tigers Sign Blaine Hardy To One-Year Deal

The Tigers announced the signing of left-hander Blaine Hardy to a one-year deal Saturday, thus avoiding arbitration.

The deal is worth approximately $750,000, according to the Detroit News.

Hardy posted a career-worst 5.94 ERA in 33 1/3 innings last season after averaging a 3.00 mark from 2014-16. The 30-year-old was eligible for arbitration for the first time this offseason.

A's Hire Matt Williams As Third Base Coach

The Oakland Athletics have hired former San Francisco Giants star Matt Williams as their new third base coach.

The A's announced Friday that Williams will join manager Bob Melvin's staff. Melvin was a coach in Arizona for two seasons late in Williams' career with the Diamondbacks.

Sources: Giants To Hire Curt Young As Pitching Coach

The Giants are expected to hire former A’s pitching coach Curt Young to replace Dave Righetti as pitching coach in San Francisco, according to major-league sources.

The Giants have not confirmed the hire, but a deal appears to be done or close.

Young, 57, has been the A’s pitching coach twice, from 2004 to 2010 and again from 2012 through last June, when they fired him amid a poor performance by the Oakland pitching staff.

Justin Upton Signs Five-Year, $108M Extension With Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have agreed upon a five-year, $108 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

Upton's contract runs through 2022. Upton was owed $88 million in his existing deal signed two years ago with the Detroit Tigers, so he was given an extra year and $18 million that will keep him with the Angels through 2022.

Upton’s original six-year, $132.75 million deal with the Detroit Tigers turns into a seven-year, $150.25 million contract.

Upton was acquired by the Angels on August 31st.
