Jacoby Ellsbury set a Red Sox franchise record on Thursday night against the Phillies as he stole five bases.
The Phillies presented Ellsbury with a base to acknowledge his accomplishment after the game.
"It's pretty neat," Ellsbury said. "As long as the Red Sox have been around . It's pretty special."
Ellsbury had been tied with Jerry Remy atop the franchise list with four stolen bases.
Dioner Navarro and Ryan Zimmerman each hit three home runs on Wednesday, becoming just the 14th pair of players to accomplish the feat on the same day.
The feat was last accomplished by Evan Longoria and Dan Johnson on the final day of the 2012 season.
Wednesday's three-homer games were the first of the career for both Navarro and Zimmerman.
Carlos Gomez is having a career-season for the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting .326 with 10 home runs and 13 doubles. He ranks third in the National League in extra-base hits.
Gomez is still striking out at a high rate, while walking rarely. The difference this season has been that he's hitting the ball harder, leading to more line drives and a high batting average on balls in play.
He has a .380 BABIP, up from .296 last season when he hit .260.
Juan Segura collected six hits for the Brewers on Tuesday night, becoming the first player since 2009 to accomplish the feat.
Only two other Brewers in the franchise's 45 seasons have had six hits in a game: Johnny Briggs on Aug. 4, 1973, at Cleveland and Kevin Reimer on Aug. 24, 1993, vs. Oakland.
Segura went 5-for-5 in nine innings and then added a sixth hit in extra innings.
He finished 6-for-7 and leads the National League with a .365 batting average.
Justin Verlander has allowed five or more runs in five or fewer innings in two of his last three starts.
Verlander seemed to get back on track against the Pirates on Monday, but according to ESPN Stats & Info he has dealt with velocity issues in 2013.
Verlander's average pitch-release velocity from 2009 to 2012 was 95 mph, but this season, that average has dipped to 92.5 mph.
During that same four-year span, Verlander had thrown strikes with his fastball 69 percent of the time. Over his three most recent outings, that rate had dropped to 61 percent.
Anibal Sanchez is off to a great start this season.
Some questioned why the Tigers signed him to an $80 million deal this past winter, but he has paid dividends so far.
Sanchez has increased his strikeout rate from 20.4 percent a season ago to 30.6 percent in 2013.
He's getting more strikeouts with all four of his pitches, but the biggest increase has been with his fastball. The pitch had a strikeout rate of 13.8 percent on plate appearances ending with it in 2012, but 28 percent this season.
The Yankees lost to the Rays on Sunday with CC Sabathia on the mound, stretching the pitcher's winless streak to five games.
Sabathia dropped to 0-2 with a 4.85 ERA since he beat Toronto on April 27.
He allowed seven runs and seven hits in seven innings and is 10-11 in 31 starts against the Rays, including a 3-10 mark since joining the Yankees. His overall ERA is 3.96.
"I'm hurting the team," Sabathia said. "Not being able to make pitches with two strikes, fastball command. I feel fine. It's just one of those things where I feel like the ball is coming out pretty good, but I'm just not making pitches."
Sabathia's career-high streak for consecutive winless starts is six.
Manny Machado has been hot early this season and is hitting his way into elite company.
Machado entered this weekend with 70 hits, the second-most in the Major Leagues. His hit total is the most by any player under the age of 21 in Major League history before June since 1921, according to STATS.
Ken Griffey Jr. recorded 66 hits before June back in 1990.
"He's willing to put in the work, and it has paid off for him," Buck Showalter said. "He has taken it to another level defensively for us."
Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown last year, hitting .330/.383/.606 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI.
Believe it or not, Cabrera is on pace to crush those numbers nearly two months into the season.
The reigning AL MVP is hitting .388/.463/.691 and is on pace to finish with 49 home runs and 201 RBI for the Tigers.
He currently leads the Majors in hitting and RBIs.
