White Sox Become Just Fourth Team With Three Wins Through 25 Games

Apr 26, 2024 8:21 AM

The Chicago White Sox dropped to 3-22 with Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

Every other Major League club entered Thursday with at least six wins.

The White Sox are only the fourth team in baseball history to lose 22 of their first 25 games. They join the 2022 Cincinnati Reds, 2003 Detroit Tigers and 1988 Baltimore Orioles.

To avoid a dreaded 100-loss season, Chicago will need to go 60-77 in their final 137 games.

Phillies' Ranger Suarez Extends Scoreless Streak To 25 Innings

Apr 23, 2024 8:04 AM

Ranger Suarez pitched seven scoreless innings for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.

Suarez has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings going back to the fourth inning on April 6 against the Washington Nationals.

It is the longest streak by a Phillies pitcher since Cliff Lee threw 30 2/3 scoreless innings from Aug. 17–Sept. 10, 2011.

"I've never had a really good fastball, so today I felt how I've always felt,” Suarez said. "As always, I tried to mix all my pitches, especially my changeup and curveball. I don't throw hard. So those are things I have to do to get outs."

Suarez is 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 33 innings this season.

Naylor Brothers Homer In Same Inning On National Siblings Day

Apr 11, 2024 9:42 AM

Josh Naylor and his younger brother, Bo, both hit home runs in the same inning Wednesday night for the Cleveland Guardians in their 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox.

The performance came on National Siblings Day.

Josh Naylor connected for a solo homer with one out in the fourth off Chicago's Erick Fedde, and Bo Naylor smashed a two-run shot to center field two batters later.

The Naylors were unaware their performances came on a day to celebrate siblings.

"Not a clue," said Bo Naylor, who is 24. "So it's kind of crazy to be able to share a home run in the same inning with him."

Josh Naylor, 26, said he always felt playing alongside his younger brother was possible.

"I dreamt of it as a kid," he said. "I knew it would come true eventually if we just keep working hard. So it's not really a shock to me. I kind of believed in it from day one and I knew that if we just continue to work hard at our craft, we'd either play against each other or play with each other."

For the second time in four games, Jackson Holliday hit a leadoff home run for Triple-A Norfolk.

He opened the season with one and added to his total in Tuesday's game against Charlotte.

"I told our hitting coaches that I was going to try to hit a homer off the batter's eye," Holliday said, "and obviously that actually happened."

The top prospect in all of baseball, Holliday is hitting .316/.333/.747 through 19 at-bats this year.
