Brian Roberts will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. The announcement was made on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Orioles second baseman began a rehabilitation assignment with Class A Aberdeen. "It just hasn't responded the way we were hoping it would," Roberts said. "Deep down in my gut, I think I knew before last night."

Mike Trout did not play on Sunday afternoon against the Rays because of a left knee contusion. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Trout was available to pinch hit and that he expects the rookie to be in the lineup on Monday.

Neftali Feliz has been scratched from Sunday's start with Triple-A Round Rock because of more discomfort in his right elbow. Feliz has been on the disabled list since May 18 with a sprained right elbow.

Giancarlo Stanton is aiming to return Aug. 10 to the Marlins, according to the Miami Herald. Stanton, 22, had arthroscopic right knee surgery on July 9, and was expected out four to six weeks.

David Ortiz is no longer wearing a protective boot and should come off the disabled list when he is eligible Wednesday. "I'm not going to rush," the Red Sox designated hitter said. "When I'm ready, I'm ready." Ortiz went on the DL on July 17 with what the team is calling a strained right Achilles tendon.

Matt Garza won't pitch until the end of next week at the earliest because of fluid buildup in his triceps area. The right-hander has been mentioned in trade rumors most of the season, but his value has dipped because he won't pitch before the July 31 deadline. "He's not going to be able to pitch until later next week at the earliest," manager Dale Sveum said. "I don't expect anybody to be gone until it happens anyway, so I'm not dwelling on that at all. We have to get him back on the mound."

J.P. Arencibia is expected to miss about six weeks after fracturing his right hand on Wednesday against the Athletics. The Blue Jays catcher is batting .242 with 16 homers and 50 RBIs so far this season.

Mets pitcher Dillon Gee will undergo potentially season-ending surgery Friday in to fix artery damage in his right shoulder, which should prevent a recurrence of clotting, the team confirmed Thursday, according to an ESPN.com report.

Colby Lewis will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery this week to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. Lewis said doctors told him it could be nine to 12 months before he's 100 percent healthy. "It's disappointing not only for me and my family but for my teammates, for the organization," he said. "The biggest thing I want to do is go out and perform and be on that mound. It sucks. I don't know any other words to really say it."

Matt Garza, who is dealing with triceps soreness in his right arm, is not expected to make his next scheduled start Friday at home against the Cardinals. "I don't think it's going to happen," Dale Sveum said of the right-hander making his next start. "If he's not going to throw a [between start] bullpen I don't think he's going to throw Friday." Garza left his most recent start Saturday after three innings when arm discomfort cropped up. He has been mentioned in trade rumors this month, but the injury may put those on hold.
