Jeter Has Added Weight During Recovery

Sep 17, 2014 1:53 AM

Derek Jeter appears to have packed on some weight as he recovers from ankle surgery.

He broke his ankle in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Tigers.

The New York Post snapped a picture of Jeter in South Beach on Thursday. He is wearing a walking boot and has a noticeable stomach under a blue shirt.

Jeter has been in a non-weight bearing situation and will continue to be until January. That means if he has been able to work out at all, it has been limited to upper body because he can’t put any weight on his left foot.

Jeter Could Miss Opening Day

Sep 26, 2014 6:34 PM

Joe Girardi isn't going to guarantee that Derek Jeter will be in the lineup for the Yankees on Opening Day.

Jeter fractured his left ankle in Game 1 of the ALCS.

"He's still basically non-weight-bearing, I believe, so, I really believe it might be a little push," Girardi said.

The injury wasn’t initially thought to require surgery, but Jeter ended up going under the knife in October, which lengthened the recovery process to up to five months.

Sep 26, 2014 6:34 PM

CC Sabathia, who had his left elbow surgically repaired, expects to be ready for Spring Training.

"I feel pretty good," he said. "The flexibility is coming back. I expect there to be no delays up until spring training so I should be ready to go."

Sabathia had bone spurs removed by Dr. James Andrews at the end of October.

Hee didn't feel the impact of the injury during starts this past season.

"It would be the day after," he said. "I couldn't touch my shoulder."
