Carlos Zambrano has vowed to throw 98 m.p.h. Wednesday to prove to skeptics he has no shoulder problems. This could lead to Zambrano overthrowing in an attempt to make a point, though Piniella seemed oblivious to the guarantee.
"I'm not concerned," Piniella said. "You all hear things I'm not aware of."
Zambrano has been throwing up to the mid-90s and is coming off an outing in which he gave up 13 hits with no strikeouts.
"He should just go out and pitch," Piniella said. "What's important is he gets people out and wins games."
