Rangers general manager Jon Daniels admits he's probably going to preside over the mid-summer fire sale that usually accompanies a woeful season.
"If things don't turn around, I think we're going to have to consider that," Daniels said Tuesday.
Still, he has not begun shopping tradeable players and said he has not spoken to a single team about a deal for first baseman Mark Teixeira.
"At this time of the year there's only so much I can do," Daniels said. "We've dug ourselves a hole, obviously. There's not much in June in the trade market. We're evaluating our players up here and evaluating our players down below... and evaluating where we're going in the future. For me right now, the most important thing is to sit back and let the team play."
Teixeira, who will be a free agent after the 2008 season, is the player with the most trade value, and veterans such as Eric Gagn?, Sammy Sosa, Kenny Lofton and Frank Catalanotto could also help a contender.
Nonetheless, Daniels said he will not "actively or inactively" shop Teixeira on the market this season.
