The Minnesota Twins traded Phil Hughes to the San Diego Padres last weekend.

San Diego sent prospect Janigson Villalobos to Minnesota. Hughes has $22 million left on his deal and the Padres will receive $7.6 million this year and $7.25 million next to offset that.

The Padres will also get the 74th pick in this week's draft along with the 812,200 in bonus pool money that goes with it.

Essentially, the Padres are paying $7 million for the competitive balance pick. When the Twins designated Hughes for assignment, they appeared willing to eat all of the $22 million remaining on his deal.
