Mookie Betts defeated the Boston Red Sox in Wednesday's arbitration hearing and will earn $10.5 million this season.

The Red Sox were offering to pay him $7.5 million. The outcome is a near record for a first-time arbitration-eligible player.

Earlier this month, Kris Bryant settled on a record $10.85 million mark, although that number was agreed upon without him going to a hearing with the Chicago Cubs.
