The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed veteran reliever Joe Borowski on Monday. Borowski, 34, was designated for assignment last month by the Chicago Cubs. After failing to work out a trade, the Cubs released Borowski, making him a free agent. The Devil Rays have allowed a major league-high 533 runs, which is tied for third-most at the All-Star break. The 2005 season has also been a nightmare for Borowski, who suffered a non-displaced fracture to his right forearm after being hit by a line drive in an exhibition game against Kansas City.
