Jered Weaver left millions of dollars on the table when he signed a five-year, $85 million extension with the Angels in 2011.
The decision allowed him to bypass a few years of free agency and he instead sat back and watched how much money was given to pitchers like Zack Greinke and Felix Hernandez this offseason.
Weaver agreed to the extension against the advice of agent Scott Boras, who knew the right-hander would lose millions of dollars.
"How much more do you need?" Weaver said when he signed the extension. "Could have got more, whatever. Who cares?"
Weaver left about $60 million on the table, given the $147-million contract the Dodgers gave Zack Greinke last winter and the $144 million the Phillies gave Cole Hamels last summer.
