Hiroki Kuroda, who signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Yankees on Tuesday, took less money to return to the team, according to source.

The Dodgers and Red Sox were both interested in Kuroda, who also could have returned to his native Japan.

Kuroda could have selected two-year offers, or contracts with player options, but favored the flexibility of going through the process again next offseason.
