The White Sox have a new general manager in the recently-promoted Rick Hahn and one of his first duties will be to deal with free agency.

Chicago will have to handle the free agencies of Jake Peavy and A.J. Pierzynski, as well as options on the contracts of Kevin Youkilis, Gavin Floyd and Brett Myers.

Hahn said the team expects to have a payroll around what it was in 2012, $97 million, which may prove problematic in terms of keeping all their possible free agents -- especially Peavy.

"Look, there aren't a lot of free-agent pitchers out there," said Hahn, who has had initial talks with Peavy's agent. "There is a fair amount of money, perhaps, to be spent by other clubs, so [Peavy's] going to be a challenge."

Hahn also said that he views Tyler Flowers as a viable every-day option in Pierzynski's place.
