The White Sox are unlikely to pick up Jake Peavy's $22 million option for next season, meaning he could fortify a thin free agent class.

Chicago would have to pay Peavy $4 million to buy him out and make him a free agent. The White Sox may try to re-sign Peavy after declining that option, but if he hits the open market the price will certainly increase.

The two sides aren't currently negotiating.
