Melky Cabrera is headed for his second-straight season of at least 200 hits and was the MVP of last month's All-Star Game.
Cabrera can become a free agent this winter and the Giants haven't been successful to inching him towards a team-friendly contract extension.
San Francisco vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans has confirmed that he and Cabrera's agents briefly tossed around ideas for an extension, but nothing more.
"We had very brief conceptual discussions about a contract," Evans said, "but we agreed to table the talks until the end of the season."
