Tigers manager Jim Leyland isn't a stickler for pitch counts, especially in regards to Justin Verlander. Verlander threw 132 pitches over eight innings against the Yankees on Monday night, bringing the topic of pitch counts to the forefront. Verlander has topped 130 pitches four times in his career. "He could throw 130 pitches every time," Leyland said. "It's a walk in the park for him. That's just today's baseball that that's always going to be talked about. That's just today's modern baseball. Guys used to throw that like it was nothing." Leyland, however, isn't going to push Verlander to 140 pitches. "I would not ... unless I got about a 10-year extension," he joked. "But I think Justin Verlander could throw 140 pitches and I don't think it would bother him one bit. I truly believe that. I wouldn't do it. But when I say that, he was only eight off last night."
