The Braves are very happy after having taken a risk on Ben Sheets, who was out of baseball for nearly two years.
Sheets underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2010.
"I wasn't thinking I was looking at some broken-down guy trying to make a comeback," general manager Frank Wren said of watching the right-hander throw. "I'm sitting there watching, saying, 'That's Ben Sheets.'"
Sheets agreed to a minor league contract with Atlanta on July 1.
Sheets is 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA and 23 strikeouts in less than 25 innings.
