The Yankees have won the rights to negotiate with Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima, according to a source.
Nakajima, 29, was posted by the Seibu Lions and is a lifetime .300 hitter in Japan.
It is believed that New York has interest in the right-handed-hitting Nakajima as a backup to Derek Jeter.
The winning bid was about $2 million, according to a report.
