Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux interviewed with the Cubs last week, but they officially passed him over on Friday night when they hired Dave Sveum. Maddux will return to Texas in the same capacity next season. Sveum and Maddux were together on Milwaukee's coaching staff from 2005 to 2008. Maddux had nothing but pleasant things to say about the opportunity he was given by the Cubs. "Dale is one of the best baseball people I know and will make a fine manager," Maddux said in a statement. "I would like to thank the Cubs for the flattery and opportunity to be considered a managerial candidate. Possibly in the future a managerial position may come to fruition for me."
