Ben Cherington will have plenty to do when he follows Theo Epstein as the GM of the Red Sox. A source confirmed to ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes that assistant GM Cherington will indeed be promoted. The Red Sox have scheduled a Tuesday news conference to introduce Epstein's replacement.
