Diamondbacks rookie Paul Goldschmidt has become a part of team lore in the postseason, but two months ago his career with Arizona nearly came to an end. According to two high-ranking officials, the Diamondbacks claimed White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko on waivers near the end of August. Chicago and Arizona had a brief conversation and White Sox general manager Kenny Williams submitted a list of desired players that included Goldschmidt. Arizona general manager Kevin Towers declined and decided to keep Goldschmidt. "I'm not going to comment on any trade discussions that we've had," Towers said when asked about the rumors.
