Having possibly played his final game with the Yankees, Jorge Posada cut his media session short following New York's season-ending loss to Detroit in Game 5 of the ALDS on Thursday night.
"They have been awesome," Posada said with tears in his eyes. "The fans have been unbelievable to this team and to me."
Posada, 40, hit .429 during the five-game series with a .579 on-base percentage.
"He was awesome," manager Joe Girardi, who also got emotional when talking about Posada, said. "He's had a tremendous career and I'm sure he's going to play, and I don't know what's to happen."
Posada, 40, completed his four-year, $52.4 million contract.
The long-time catcher said earlier in the season that he would consider playing elsewhere if the Yankees didn't want to re-sign him.
