The A's finished 74-88 in 2011 one season after showing progress with a .500 record in 2010.
"The biggest challenge we have right now is putting together a business plan," said Billy Beane. "And I've said it more publicly lately and will continue to do so, whether we're staying in Oakland or going to San Jose. At some point, we have to have some clarification about our situation so at least we can put together a business plan that lasts longer than six months."
The A's have been seeking a new stadium for years and have had the San Jose area blocked by the Giants because they hold territorial rights to that area.
Beane was asked if Bill Neukom leaving the Giants has had any impact on the A's chances to move to San Jose.
"I don't know to be honest with you. I have never really thought of an individual being able to be THE main reason."
