Blue Jays utility man Mike McCoy pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Saturday afternoon in a 16-4 loss to the Red Sox. McCoy, the seventh Toronto pitcher, retired Boston's hitters in order by getting a pop out, a fly ball and a weak ground ball to second base. He is the fifth position player to pitch for the Blue Jays in their franchise history and the first since 2004. McCoy has now played seven different positions during his three-year career in the Major Leagues. The only spots he has not played are catcher and first base. He started Saturday's game at second base.
