Heath Bell's agents had a productive meeting with the Padres last week, according to the reliever.
Bell wants to remain in San Diego and will take a discount in order to do so, but he insists on a long-term contract extension.
"My biggest thing is that I'd like three years," Bell said. "That's my biggest thing. If it means taking less money, then that's something I'll do to make sure I'm here for the next three years or more."
Bell can become a free agent after the 2011 season and the Padres would like to see how the season plays out before doing anything long-term.
