Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is "happy" that the team decided to pick up his $12.5 million option on Thursday for the 2011 season. Ortiz was seeking a contract extension from Boston rather than simply playing under a one-year contract. "He's happy now with the one-year solution," general manager Theo Epstein said. "I think in the end, he realized that we weren't in a position to give him what he was looking for with a multiyear arrangement and this was an outcome that was acceptable to both sides."
