Mets pitcher Johan Santana isn't throwing as hard as he once did, but he's still managed to remain effective. At 31, Santana's fastball has dropped to 91 mph (from 95 mph) and his strikeouts per innings have fallen to 5.9. "He's still tough to hit," said David Eckstein, whose Padres faced Santana twice in nine days. "He just relies more on movement and changing speeds on his fastball. As you get older, you learn that changing speeds on your fastball can give you two different pitches."
