Orioles Could Pursue Bullpen Help At Deadline

May 14, 2024 9:47 AM

The Baltimore Orioles lead the American League East and are trending toward buying at this year's trade deadline.

One priority for the club could be bullpen help. They lost Felix Bautista to Tommy John surgery last fall and Craig Kimbrel, a free agent addition this offseason, has struggled.

It was reported over the weekend that the Orioles will monitor the status of established closers like Jordan Romano, Ryan Helsley and Ryan Pressly as the trade deadline approaches.

Mets' Kodai Senga To Test Arm With Bullpen Session

May 14, 2024 8:23 AM

Kodai Senga, who has not pitched for the New York Mets this season, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday that could determine how soon he returns to game action.

Senga said that he is overhauling his mechanics as part of his rehab process: "With my current mechanics, I didn't think I'd be able to come back at 100%."

The 31-year-old was shut down in February because of a shoulder strain.

He received a PRP injection and was initially shut down for three weeks. Senga's mechanical reinvention has prolonged his absence.

Rhys Hoskins will undergo an MRI after a hamstring injury forced him to leave the Milwaukee Brewers' game on Monday night in the second inning.

Hoskins said he got hurt while rounding first base as he singled to right field.

Pat Murphy said after the game that Hoskins would have an MRI in the morning.

"It seemed to be like right as I was getting to the turn there," Hoskins said. "I was kind of thinking two out of the box just because of where the ball was placed. I just got into the turn and felt it grab."

Lee will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the damage.

Brian Snitker said Riley felt a little discomfort during batting practice, but didn't tell anyone on the staff. He spoke up when he felt it again early in the game.

"He was sore," Snitker said. "I just didn't want to take any chances, so we'll look at him again tomorrow and see what's up."

Batting third in the lineup, Riley singled with two outs in the first inning and then struck out swinging in the third.

Marlins Fans Call On Owner Bruce Sherman To Sell Team

May 13, 2024 7:46 AM

Miami Marlins fans are not happy in the wake of the Luis Arraez trade.

A handful of fans protested outside LoanDepot Park prior to Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with fans imploring owner Bruce Sherman to sell the team.

"We are only a few here but the majority of fans are disgusted," said Luis De Armas, a decades-long Marlins fan and the organizer of the protest. "We want to continue coming to the games but not when it remains a losing club. All because of an owner who promised us one thing and did something else."

After dealing Arraez, Marlins executive Peter Bendix indicated that more deals were on the horizon.

"That's part of the calculation. It's part of the value of the player for the rest of the season when unfortunately our record is what it is, and the fact is that we're unlikely to make the playoffs this year," Bendix said. "Trading that for future value seems like the right thing for this organization right now."
