Shohei Ohtani Pulled From Pitching Start, Will Skip All-Star Game

Jul 10, 2026 5:37 PM

Shohei Ohtani was scratched from his scheduled pitching start Friday because of continued irritation in his left knee, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced roughly six hours before first pitch. Ohtani will still serve as designated hitter for the weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Ohtani will not join his teammates at the All-Star Game following the series. The Dodgers said in a statement that he will instead undergo interventions on his knee to prepare for the second half of the season.

A source told ESPN that Ohtani is expected to have the knee drained and likely receive an injection. He will not undergo surgery, according to the source.

Ohtani first left a June 11 game against the Pittsburgh Pirates early because of irritation in the same knee, which underwent surgery in September 2019 to address a congenital condition called bipartite patella. He has managed the issue since taking the following day off.

Ohtani, who turned 32 five days ago, had also dealt with a blister on his pitching hand and tightness in his right bicep earlier this season. Both issues have since subsided.

Ohtani is slashing .290/.405/.534 with 20 home runs and six stolen bases. He has gone 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA across 14 starts on the mound.

The Dodgers will use a bullpen game Friday in Ohtani's absence.

Shohei Ohtani Becomes 5th Fastest To 300 MLB Home Runs

Jul 8, 2026 11:27 AM

Shohei Ohtani reached a career milestone Tuesday, launching his 300th career home run during the Los Angeles Dodgers' game against the Colorado Rockies. The blast made him the first Japanese-born player to reach the mark.

Ohtani led off the game with a line-drive shot to center field, needing just three pitches from Colorado starter Michael Lorenzen. The home run came one night after he recorded his 299th, and two days after his 32nd birthday.

The ball left Ohtani's bat at 112.2 mph and traveled 409 feet, according to statcast data.

"It was quite the homer," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts following the team's 4-3 home loss. "It was squared up, got out in a hurry. Three hundred, he got there pretty quickly for us. I just marvel at him every day."

Ohtani has hit 129 of his 300 career homers with the Dodgers. He becomes one of 18 active major leaguers to reach 300 home runs, joining teammates Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts as the only Dodgers to hit the mark.

Playing in his 1,102nd career game, Ohtani ranks as the fifth-fastest player in MLB history to reach 300 homers. Only Aaron Judge, Ralph Kiner, Ryan Howard and Juan Gonzalez accomplished the feat in fewer games.

Roberts expressed confidence that Ohtani could eventually reach 500 career home runs.

Ohtani is hitting .294 with a .950 OPS this season while also posting a 1.79 ERA across 14 starts as a two-way player, drawing early National League Cy Young consideration.

Fans selected Ohtani as the NL's starting designated hitter for next Tuesday's All-Star Game. Roberts said he expects Ohtani to receive at least one at-bat in the exhibition contest.

MLB Unveils 2026 All-Stars Headlined By Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge

Jul 4, 2026 10:02 PM

Major League Baseball revealed its 2026 All-Star Game starting lineups Saturday, with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani topping the fan vote and three teammates joining him in the National League's starting group.

Ohtani will serve as designated hitter for the NL, appearing alongside Freddie Freeman at first base, Max Muncy at third and Andy Pages in the outfield. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Ohtani probably won't pitch in the exhibition after they altered his workload schedule.

Additional NL starters include Juan Soto of the New York Mets, Brandon Marsh of the Philadelphia Phillies, CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals, and Atlanta Braves duo Ozzie Albies and Drake Baldwin.

American League voting leader Ernie Clement will start alongside fellow Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr., though Guerrero has since withdrawn from the game. Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz will replace him after winning the players' vote at that position.

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero, Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers and Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez round out the AL infield and battery. Mike Trout, Aaron Judge and Byron Buxton comprise the American League's starting outfield.

This year's contest takes place July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Fans selected the starters, while a combination of league officials and current players, managers and coaches chose the reserves.

The Dodgers, Braves and Phillies each landed a league-best five All-Stars apiece. Five starters, Langeliers, Clement, Baldwin, Marsh and Pages, earned their first career selections, while Freeman and Chris Sale are making their 10th appearances.

Trout returns for his 12th All-Star nod and first since 2023, currently recovering from a hamstring injury but expected to play. MLB will feature players wearing original team uniforms this year rather than specialized event jerseys.

Dodgers' Dave Roberts Fastest Manager To 1,000 Wins

Jul 1, 2026 1:06 PM

Dave Roberts became the fastest manager in MLB history to reach 1,000 career wins after the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Athletics 9-3 on Tuesday night.

Roberts is the 69th manager to reach 1,000 wins and the quickest to do it. Roberts achieved his milestone victory in 1,606 games, all but one with the Dodgers.

Cap Anson, the next fastest, needed 1,641 games and won his 1,000th in 1893.

Dodgers Push Next Shohei Ohtani Start To Friday

Jul 1, 2026 12:52 AM

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani will skip his scheduled pitching start Wednesday against the Athletics to get some extra rest, manager Dave Roberts said.

The Dodgers are in the midst of playing 13 games in 13 days, and Roberts said he wanted to make sure that the Japanese sensation got a break. Ohtani is slated to pitch in San Diego on Friday.

Kyle Tucker Exits Game With Low Back Spasms, Listed Day-To-Day

Jun 23, 2026 1:12 AM

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker was removed from Monday's game against the Minnesota Twins in the second inning because of low back spasms.

Tucker walked with one out in the second and ran lightly to second base on Tommy Edman's single to right field. Then, Tucker was replaced by pinch runner Alex Call. Tucker stayed in the dugout, standing up next to dugout fence before heading into the clubhouse after the inning was over.

Shohei Ohtani Goes On Paternity Leave For Birth Of Second Child

Jun 19, 2026 10:02 PM

Shohei Ohtani will miss at least Friday's game for the Los Angeles Dodgers as he goes on paternity leave for the birth of his second child.

The four-time MVP was present at Dodger Stadium earlier Friday but was left out of the lineup against the Baltimore Orioles. The Dodgers have not formally placed Ohtani on the paternity list and, according to a league source, will wait until Saturday to decide whether to call up a replacement for his roster spot.

The club said it expects Ohtani to return "at some point this weekend." Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko, welcomed their first child last April.

Ohtani's absence is not expected to affect his next scheduled pitching start, which would come Wednesday in Minnesota against the Twins if the rotation holds. He last pitched Wednesday in the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The unplanned day off comes as the Dodgers monitor Ohtani's workload during his first full two-way season since 2023. He has dealt with minor ailments recently, including a swollen knee that required an MRI last week and a blister that began bleeding Wednesday, though his production has remained elite. His 1.47 ERA ranks second among major league pitchers with at least 70 innings, and his .963 OPS ranks second among qualified National League hitters.

Kyle Tucker moved into Ohtani's usual leadoff spot Friday, with Ryan Ward taking over designated hitter duties.

The defending back-to-back World Series champions own baseball's best record despite a series of injuries. Catcher Will Smith remains out with an inflamed disc in his neck and will receive an injection to aid his recovery, while closer Edwin Diaz threw 15 fastballs off a bullpen mound Friday in his continued rehab from triceps surgery.

Shohei Ohtani Wins Despite Knee, Blister Issues As ERA Rises

Jun 17, 2026 10:15 PM

Shohei Ohtani allowed multiple earned runs for the second consecutive start Wednesday, pitching through left knee soreness and a bleeding blister on his right middle finger in a 5-4 Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ohtani (7-2) cruised through four scoreless innings before surrendering four runs and five hits in a 26-pitch fifth inning. He recovered to retire the side in order in the sixth, finishing with the win as the Dodgers completed a sweep of Tampa Bay.

"It's just really that inning, that fifth inning, that I wasn't really too pleased," said Ohtani through an interpreter. "But aside from that the stuff was good and I felt pretty good overall."

Ohtani has now allowed eight runs, seven earned, across his last two outings after giving up just seven runs, five earned, in his first 10 starts. His ERA climbed to 1.47, still second-best in the majors among pitchers with at least 50 innings.

His knee forced him to miss a start in Chicago last week and ended a four-game winning streak on the mound with a no-decision at Pittsburgh.

Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing expressed little concern over the recent struggles.

"Obviously, we expect close to perfection out of Sho every time he goes out there. So does he," said Rushing. "But there's no reason to worry at all."

Ohtani also batted as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, grounding out on one pitch after Freddie Freeman's two-run homer had given Los Angeles the lead. Ohtani had hit five home runs over his previous nine games entering Wednesday, batting .367 during that stretch.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Takes No-Hit Bid Into 9th In Win Against White Sox

Jun 13, 2026 9:06 PM

Yoshinobu Yamamoto carried a no-hit bid into the ninth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago White Sox 7-1 on Saturday, snapping Chicago's eight-game home winning streak.

Yamamoto retired his first 23 batters before Chase Meidroth reached base on a two-out error by shortstop Mookie Betts in the eighth inning. Jacob Gonzalez followed with a groundout to second to end the frame.

Tristan Peters broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff home run in the ninth, driving a 96.6 mph fastball deep to right field for his third career homer. After Edgar Quero flied out to center, Yamamoto exited to a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 37,832 and was replaced by Alex Vesia.

Yamamoto improved to 7-4, striking out seven over 109 pitches, 74 for strikes, in his fourth consecutive victory.

Shohei Ohtani returned to the lineup after sitting out Friday with left knee inflammation and delivered a leadoff home run, his fifth of the season and 29th of his career. The 409-foot drive to right field left the bat at 109.6 mph.

Max Muncy homered twice and drove in four runs for Los Angeles. Betts singled in the first inning ahead of Muncy's two-run shot to right-center, his 15th homer of the season, and Muncy added another two-run blast in the eighth.

The Dodgers bounced back after an 8-2 loss in Friday's series opener. White Sox starter Sean Burke fell to 3-4, allowing four runs on six hits over four innings.

Dodgers Move Tyler Glasnow To 60-Day IL With Back Injury

Jun 7, 2026 12:12 PM

Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, another sign that his balky back is hindering his rehab progression.

The 32-year-old right-hander has been out since May 8, two days after a back spasm surfaced. Initially, the team expected him to miss a short period of time.

Instead, Glasnow was shut down and manager Dave Roberts said the pitcher still hasn't been cleared to resume a throwing program.
