Sources: Hyun-Jin Ryu Agrees To Four-Year, $80M Deal With Blue Jays

Dec 22, 2019 11:50 PM

Hyun-Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays are in agreement on a four-year, $80 million contract, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

A groin injury robbed Ryu of 15 weeks in 2018, but he stayed healthy throughout 2019 with the Dodgers and was among the best in the National League.

Ryu, who returned to the Dodgers after accepting the qualifying offer, made his first All-Star team last summer. He finished the season with a 14-5 mark, an NL-best 2.32 ERA, walked only 24 batters and had 163 strikeouts in 182⅔ innings.

Anthony Rendon On Dodgers: 'Hollywood Lifestyle' Not A Fit

Dec 16, 2019 7:19 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers expressed interest in signing Anthony Rendon, but he instead joined the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels play 30 miles south in Anaheim, outside of Los Angeles County.

Rendon spoke highly of the Dodgers, but said that "the Hollywood lifestyle" of L.A. "didn't seem like it would be a fit for us as a family."

Rendon, who was born and raised in Houston, was asked about his general hesitancy toward the state of California at the onset of the offseason, and he joked about the high tax rate.

"I just think environment itself," Rendon added. "I think when people think about California, they think about straight Hollywood, that Hollywood glamour, whole bunch of flashes, so much paparazzi. But everyone said it's just the complete opposite here."

Rendon agreed to a seven-year, $245 million deal with the Angels.

Angels Poised For Run At Signing Anthony Rendon

Dec 11, 2019 7:37 AM

Anthony Rendon has drawn interest from a number of teams this offseason, but the Los Angeles Angels may be poised to make a strong run at the free agent.

The Angels traded Zack Cozart to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, clearing more than $12 million from their 2020 payroll.

L.A. reportedly offered Gerrit Cole just under $300 million, which should be more than enough to land Rendon.

Dec 4, 2019 8:25 AM

Stephen Strasburg is drawing interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

Strasburg was named the MVP of the 2019 World Series. He opted out of the final four years and $100 million of his contract with the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals issued him a one-year, $17.8 million qualifying offer, which means he's tied to draft pick compensation.
