To rectify those issues, Boston traded for Joel Hanrahan and Los Angeles signed Ryan Madson.

Japanese Report Claims Matsui Is Set To Retire

Hideki Matsui will announce his retirement at a news conference Thursday night in New York, according to a Japanese report.

Matsui, 38, spent 20 years playing professional baseball, establishing himself as one of Japan's most dominant hitters with the Yomiuri Giants from 1993-2002 before signing with the Yankees and playing out his career in the Majors.

A career .282 hitter with 760 RBIs, Matsui owns the highest home run, RBI and walk totals for any Japanese player in Major League history.

Hamilton's Contract Valued By MLB At $123M

The Angels will pay $2 million directly to Josh Hamilton's charitable foundation as part of his $125 million contract.

Under the five-year deal, Hamilton receives a $10 million signing bonus and salaries of $15 million in each of the next two seasons, $23 million in 2015 and $30 million apiece in 2016 and 2017.

On each June 1 of the contract, the Angels will donate $400,000 to The Four Twelve Foundation.

After initially saying the $2 million would not count in its regular payroll calculations, MLB concluded Tuesday the money will be included as non-cash compensation in its opening-day payrolls.

The federal lawsuit accuses North Carolina-based ScriptureArt of using a slogan already claimed by Dallas-based Play Hard Pray Harder LLC.

Corporate filings show the Texas company formed in January.
